How do you coordinate timing between donor eggs, embryo creation, and the surrogate’s cycle?

Lucina and your fertility clinic work together to ensure embryos are created and cryopreserved before your surrogate begins her cycle. This sequencing removes scheduling conflicts and allows the surrogate’s transfer to proceed immediately after medical clearance.

How long does it take to match with a surrogate?

Matching with a gestational carrier can take several weeks to a few months, depending on your preferences and location. Since donor selection and embryo creation move faster, we strongly recommend completing those steps first, so embryos are ready for transfer once your surrogate is approved.

Do intended parents get to choose their surrogate?

While Lucina focuses on the donor egg and embryo creation process, the surrogate-matching process is typically managed by your surrogacy agency or fertility clinic. These partners help you review profiles and preferences to ensure the best possible match.

Can intended parents use embryos created elsewhere (their own embryos)?

Lucina fully supports all paths to parenthood. If you already have existing embryos, they remain managed by your IVF clinic. While Lucina specializes in providing high-quality, FDA-screened donor eggs, coordination steps for using external embryos are determined directly by your clinic.

How does the embryo transfer process work with a surrogate?

After donor eggs are fertilized using your or your partner’s sperm, the resulting embryos are frozen. Once your surrogate completes medical screening, she begins medication to prepare her uterus for transfer. The embryo transfer typically occurs about one month after medication begins.

I’m working with a gestational surrogate — should I select a donor first or wait to be matched?

We recommend choosing your donor and creating embryos first. Matching with a surrogate usually takes longer than selecting a donor. Having frozen embryos ready gives you peace of mind and ensures your surrogate’s transfer can begin as soon as she is medically cleared.
